Why Not Sell Your Used Restaurant Cooking Oil and Enjoy the PR of the BioFuel Revolution
The other day, I was reading the world news, and I happened onto a South Korean newspaper. There was an article about McDonald’s and how they made a deal with a major corporation there to sell their used cooking oil and grease to a company and the transportation company would then refine it and use it for biofuel. Yes, I realize this is quite common, except that it made the front page of several major South Korean newspapers. You can’t buy publicity like that, and they got it by making a simple deal.
Let’s face it, cooking oil and grease is a messy situation. When you spill it there are ants and bugs all over your enclosed trash area, and you have to call a power washing company to come out and clean it up. And the pressure washing or power washing company charges you extra because they have to reclaim the water.
If you are paying to have your used grease and cooking oil hauled away to ensure that you comply with the NPDES permits locally, the EPA, the health inspectors, and the water and sewer department, wouldn’t it be easier to get a certificate from a company that would haul away that waste and turn it into biofuel?
